2012 Deborah Voigt/Vero Beach Opera Protégé Dominick Rodriguez began his 2012 season with back-to-back performances of the title role in Il trovatore for Opera in the Heights and Opera Circle of Cleveland. He returned to Cleveland in the fall to sing Pollione in Opera Circle’s production of Norma. He was recently seen as Don José in the Glimmerglass Festival’s Young Artist presentation of Carmen. It was his second year with Glimmerglass: in 2010, he appeared as Spoletta and covered Cavaradossi in Tosca.

In the 2009/2010 season, he was featured on gala concerts with Castleward Opera of Northern Ireland, University of Arkansas in Little Rock, and returned to Georgia, where he sang Gerontius in Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius with Savannah Philharmonic.

Italian audiences have seen him as Ruggero in Puccini’s La rondine (Oberlin in Italy) and Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor (La Musica Lirica). In 2006/2007, he covered Don José in Carmen, Canio in Pagliacci and Turiddu in Cavalleria rusticana for Virginia Opera.

While a student at the University of Minnesota, he was featured in many productions: Rodolfo in La bohème, the title role in Les contes d'Hoffmann, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Fenton in The Merry Wives of Windsor, Mayor Upfold in Albert Herring, and Asa Skinner in the regional premiere of Libby Larson’s opera Eric Hermannson’s Soul.

On the concert stage, Rodriguez has been a featured soloist with Minnesota Orchestra, Savannah Philharmonic, University of Minnesota Bach Festival, Rochester Aria Group, Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, and Allegro Sinfonia in works such as Verdi’s Requiem, Matthäus-Passion, Mass in B-minor, Magnificat, Elijah, and Dubois’s Seven Last Words of Christ. He has been featured twice on the music series of St. Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral in Minneapolis: as the Evangelist in Johannes-Passion, and in a solo art song recital. In 2005, he was the tenor soloist in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, conducted by Osmo Vänskä and featuring the joint forces of Minnesota Orchestra and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra.

Mr. Rodriguez has held apprenticeships with Central City Opera, and Opera Theatre of St. Louis, where he was also invited to participate in their newly developed outreach program, Opera on the Go.
